PRE-THANKSGIVING MESSAGE

Howdy,

We have been offline for a couple of weeks, reorganizing our website, fixing links, etc. Our upgrades should make it easier to find what you want. We will be adding a “most often viewed” page as well as a “tips” page in the near future.

After more than a year of Covid, mask on, mask off, we are further convinced that our “Shop once a month technique” is the best way to go for us and may have some appeal to you. As we said in our initial blogs, we live appx. 100 miles from a major metropolitan shopping town.

What we have witnessed lately is that our local grocery store (20 miles away) used for our perishables, and such is experiencing empty portions of their shelving. In fact, our major metro go-to store, Albertsons, had some holes this past week.

We are afraid that the appx. 75-100 ships waiting offshore to unload, the lack of trucks and drivers, and overall lack of workers, may make for some major shortages in the near future. The news says that there are major backups and shortages world-wide.

Patty & I will be spending our 25th Thanksgiving together this year. For the first 22 years, we always had a 25lb Turkey. The last couple of years we have had a 15lb bird and that has worked out fine. Last week when we went to the markets, we found Turkeys at two stores. Albertsons, being the marketers they are, held last year’s prices @.97 cents. Theory being that if shoppers went to Albertsons because of the turkey prices, they would be inclined to do the rest of their shopping there. What we found was they did not have a huge display of turkeys and not many, if any, 25lb-ers. Knowing turkeys have a long freezer life, and what appeared to be a smaller than usual turkey display, we bought 2-14lb turkeys.

We shop once a month for everything that is non-perishable and of course buy perishables that we’ll consume in the coming week or two. Additionally, we buy online whenever possible.

We hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving.

Be sure to watch for Patty’s “Let’s Talk Turkey” blog coming soon.
