As you visit our website KITCHENTIPSBYPK.com and read some of our blogs, we thought it only fair to layout our kitchen. When we got together some 25 years ago, we were both relocating to Colorado. If you have read Patty’s bio, you’ll know that she came with tremendous knowledge and practical experience in the “cooking arena.” One of our agreements was that she would keep us fed. And that she does!!
After 12 years in Colorado, we ended up buying a fishing cabin on a small lake in New Mexico. The first thing we did was gut the existing kitchen and dining area and build a new kitchen.
We started on one wall with a new double sink, counter space, an electric range, more counter space, and 2 refrigerators. We then turned our attention to what we call the prep table. It is approximately 20 feet long and 4 feet wide. The 4-foot width allows room for many appliances along the backside. We installed the appropriate power strips along the backside for ease in using the appliances. Since the “new kitchen” was not well lit we installed a 7-foot wide by 4-foot tall window above the prep table facing the lake. This allows a great view of the lake and lots of light.
We tiled the top after installing cabinets and drawers on the underside. To the left side of the table, we have a water cooler, then a commercial dual deep fryer, one side for meat and fish, the other for veggies and fries. Next along the back, we have a Cuisinart panini & waffle maker, a vacuum sealer, a 4 slice toaster, and a 30 piece knife block centered behind 2 – 16x16x3 inch chopping blocks. The rest of the prep table is filled out with a KitchenAid stand mixer, a KitchenAid food processor, a rice cooker, a popcorn popper, and an ice cream maker. We finish the top of the prep table with a Cuisinart coffee maker and a Cuisinart supreme whole bean grinder. Above the far end of the prep table is a large pot rack with no less than 40-45, pots, pans, and “things.”
We make our own bread almost every week. Patty has a bread machine but prefers to create her own the old-fashioned way. We make our own ice cream, usually 2 flavors, almost every other week. While Patty has over 150 cookbooks, she enjoys experimenting with new cooking ideas, appliances, and kitchen gadgets.
